From Thomas Jefferson Encyclopedia
John Strode was an iron and arms manufacturer in Virginia and served in the Virginia House of Delegates (1810-1812). During the American Revolution, he managed an arms factory near Fredericksburg, and after the war, owned several mills while still working in the iron business. Thomas Jefferson often stopped at Strode's residence, Fleetwood, in Culpeper as he traveled.
