Mules

Mules were very important to work at Monticello. He preferred them for hard work such as hauling heavy loads around and he knew a good breed. He mentions one breed, the Don Carlos, in 1822.[1]
Kentucky was a good market for mules. Jefferson writes, "I had been tempted by the offer of 4. of the finest mues I have ever seen from Kentucky offered me at 75. D..."[2]
