The Thomas Jefferson Encyclopedia was created and is edited and maintained by the staff of the Thomas Jefferson Foundation, Inc., which has owned and operated Monticello as a historic house museum since 1923. The Thomas Jefferson Foundation employs more than a hundred full-time staff, including research historians, archaeologists, librarians, curators, horticulturists, educators, documentary editors, architectural historians, and many others.
